Freedom of Information and Associated Legislation for Health and Social Care
Introduction
This 4 day course is aimed at FOI and access to information practitioners. It is an intermediate level course. It has been constructed for those who work in the area of health and social care; the content is aimed at covering the wide range of areas within health and social care.
Background
Freedom of Information is one of the most challenging areas within the health and social care information governance arena. The numbers of requests to public authorities are increasing, as well as becoming more challenging. There have been changes in the law recently, with more possible after the post-legislative enquiry on the Freedom of Information Act 2000 has concluded.
This course is for all those who require a good grounding in all aspects of freedom of information legislation and procedures. The course provides a clear theoretical approach, with practical examples illustrating implementation and best practice. The scenarios and cases discussed relate to the wide range of work carried out in health and social care.
Who is the course aimed at?
The course is aimed at those who have a basic grounding in this area, and who need to move to intermediate level. The course is for those who have some familiarity with freedom of information.
Course Objectives
- To provide the knowledge and understanding required for those managing/involved in freedom of information in health and social care
- To assist practitioners in the successful implementation of associated processes and systems to ensure compliance with FOI and associated laws
- To identify the organisation-wide requirements in respect of successful implementation
- To ensure that practitioners are equipped with the necessary tools to use in the implementation of freedom of information and associated legislation within their health and social care organisation
Assessment and Certificate
The delegates are formatively assessed over the 4 day period, with a summative assessment in the form of a Multiple Choice Question paper at the end of the course. This is independently marked and delegates receive the results within 2 weeks after the course end date. A certificate is awarded for those who pass.
